The proper and best basis of all relationships is covenant. Our culture routinely disregards the understanding and practice of covenant. Our culture has a “live-in-the-moment” and a “what-have –done-for-me-lately” mentality. Jesus provided the best example of covenant relationship.
John 15:13, Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends. 14 You are My friends if you do whatever I command you. 15 No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you 16 You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you. 17 These things I command you, that you love one another.
A lesson from the Jehoiada the priest :
2 Chronicles 23:1, In the seventh year Jehoiada strengthened himself, and made a covenant with the captains of hundreds...And they went throughout Judah and gathered the Levites from all the cities of Judah, and the chief fathers of Israel, and they came to Jerusalem. 3] Then all the congregation made a covenant with the king in the house of God. Covenant is the basis of our strength, favor, and advancement.
Look at the response of people when they understand they are covenanted with the Lord to be His people
2 Chronicles 23:16, Then Jehoiada made a covenant between himself, the people, and the king, that they should be the Lord's people. 17] And all the people went to the temple of Baal, and tore it down. They broke in pieces its altars and images...
