Faith Works by Love


Galatians 5:6

NKJV - For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision avails anything, but faith working through love.

NLV - If we belong to Jesus Christ, it means nothing to have or not to have gone through the religious act of becoming a Jew. But faith working through love is important.

NLT - For when we place our faith in Christ Jesus, there is no benefit in being circumcised or being uncircumcised. What is important is faith expressing itself in love.

Love is the great motivator / Faith is the great activator.

How to Keep Your Love Warm

1. Love on purpose, not by feeling
2. Have good frames – See people, love people
3. Stay committed to truth (Divine and Objective)
4. Be merciful to receive mercy
5. Have the mind of Christ

On the Martin Luther King holiday, one of the best things we can do is read, consider, and act on the actual writing of Dr. King.

We will gain clarity and understanding for today from Chapter Seven by my book: "Justice, What Is It? An Everyday Person's Guide to Understanding Justice and the Role of the Church"

Hebrews 11:6, Without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.

Hebrews 11:1, Now faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen.

Colossians 1:26-27 (J.B. PHILLIPS), They are those to whom God has planned to give a vision of the full wonder and splendor of his secret plan for the sons of men. And the secret is simply this: Christ in you! Yes, Christ in you bringing with him the hope of all glorious things to come.

We all benefit from the faith, hope, and actions of others. But we tend not to notice especially when our lives have become “normal.”

The key is to remember that there are people, perhaps people you know, whose lives are not “normal.”

Dr. King wrote in his letter from the Birmingham jail:

“We will reach the goal of freedom in Birmingham and all over the nation, because the goal of America is freedom. Abused and scorned though we may be, our destiny is tied up with America's destiny. Before the pilgrims landed at Plymouth, we were here. Before the pen of Jefferson etched the majestic words of the Declaration of Independence across the pages of history, we were here.”

WHAT IS HOPE?
1. A picture of something good that can happen
2. Confident expectation
3. Anticipation of good
4. “Framing” or re-framing yourself and your circumstances

In the social sciences, framing is comprised of concepts and perspectives on how individuals, and groups organize, perceive, and communicate their view of reality.

Perception is often not reality.

(Insight from my devotional reading today)

Genesis 16:1, Now Sarai, Abram’s wife, had borne him no children. And she had an Egyptian maidservant whose name was Hagar. 2 So Sarai said to Abram, “See now, the Lord has restrained me from bearing children. Please, go in to my maid; perhaps I shall obtain children by her.” And Abram heeded the voice of Sarai. 3 Then Sarai, Abram’s wife, took Hagar her maid, the Egyptian, and gave her to her husband Abram to be his wife, after Abram had dwelt ten years in the land of Canaan. 4 So he went in to Hagar, and she conceived. And when she saw that she had conceived, her mistress became despised in her eyes. 5 Then Sarai said to Abram, “My wrong be upon you! I gave my maid into your embrace; and when she saw that she had conceived, I became despised in her eyes. The Lord judge between you and me.”

The problem with other people's plans for you:

1. You cave in because of feeling frustrated and too old to have success (At 85 years old, Abram had been waiting 10 years on God's plan)
2. You do something wrong (Abram laid with his wife's servant, surely against her will)
3. The other person ends up despising you and accusing you

ALWAYS follow God's plan for your life! You don't want to become responsible for the outcomes of another person's plan.
